  • 2007 Mover & Shaker - Al Gourrier

Gourrier, President of 1st Commerce Bank, was recently recognized by In Business Las Vegas as one of the Top 40 Executives Under 40 in Las Vegas at the age of 34.

Gourrier started his banking career in 1993*also the year he moved and became an active member of the Las Vegas community. In 2005, he ventured out to organize 1st Commerce Bank, one of his greatest professional achievements in his young career. Its doors opened in October of 2006, and today Gourrier considers the development, organization and his regulatory approval of the bank. He is the first African American Bank President in the State of Nevada and one of the youngest bank presidents in the country. 

Born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. Educated at Xavier University of Louisiana and the University of Nevada Las Vegas. Al holds a BA in Finance, a Masters in Business Administration (MBA), and is a graduate from ABA’s Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Georgetown University. Al started his banking career in 1993 with PriMerit Bank, which was purchased by Norwest Bank in 1996 and merged with Wells Fargo Bank in 2000. In 2000 Al began his employment with Desert Community Bank as Vice President of Commercial Lending and in 2001 took over as Chief Credit Officer/Executive Vice President, a position that he held until November of 2005. In November of 2005, Al left Desert Community Bank to venture out and organize a new bank, 1st Commerce Bank, which he opened in October 2006. Mr. Gourrier considers the development, organization and his regulatory approval of 1st Commerce Bank one of his greatest professional achievements in his young career. Al has been an active member of the Las Vegas community since moving here in 1993. He has served in the past as a board member and president to the local chapter of the Urban Financial Services Coalition, which he has been of member of since 1993. He is an active member of the Urban Chamber of Commerce, the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce, and North Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the 100 Black Men of Las Vegas, the Las Vegas ChapterGourrier considers the development, organization and his regulatory approval of 1st Commerce Bank one of his greatest professional achievements in his young career. Gourrier is a member of Kappa Alpha Phi Fraternity Incorporated, Nevada Minority Purchasing Council, Risk Management Association, American Bankers Association, Nevada Bankers Association, and the National Bankers Association. Al regularly participates as a mentor in the community and often serves as an authority in community and small business lending. Al is highly respected in his field and takes pride in his work in improving the financial landscape in the minority and small business lending community. In 1995, the National Association of Urban Bankers named Mr. Gourrier, National Orator of the Year. In 2007, Al was recognized by In Business Las Vegas as one of the Top 40 Executives Under 40 in Las Vegas at the age of 34 and was the recipient of the Las Vegas Young Professionals 2007 Movers and Shakers Award. Al and his wife Marla Gourrier have been married of eleven years, have four children together and reside in North Las Vegas.
